Phew, considering how easy it is to pierce the security of House Profeste I’m not sure I should be writing any of this down. But when historians come to write about this chapter in my life they’re going to need some reliable documentary evidence to help them sift through the muck of gossip and rumour, that is if any of us live long enough to make the history books.
Boss’ first order of business was to get the boy acclimatised to the mists, granted it turned out she had some pretty good reasons for that, but good reasons or no one does begin to question the decisions of some who- no I can’t write it down, it’s just too idiotic. Anyway, the other two seemed to take it well and it’s a bit late to unhitch my cart from this particular pony so what’s there to do but to do what boss wants, sitting out in the countryside with two skaa isn’t my idea of a good time, but I’ve had worse and the kid did learn his lesson, for all the good that’ll do him.
Anyway, since it looks like we’re all going to die anyway I figured I might as well have some fun while I was at it. There was the job to think of to of course, which is why I did the infiltration work before I made my move on the lady who caught my eye. Needless to say it went flawlessly till the last moment, needed a bit of pewter to save myself the embarrassment of looking stupid enough to take a skaa maid in someone else’s private library. Come to think of it that might go a little way to explaining why, if I died now, my only contribution to the history of the Lord Ruler’s lands would be the story of why house Profeste is never making an open invitation to any of their balls ever again.
Owandise Debou, the aforementioned lady, didn’t immediately see my charms and tried to fob me off by saying she’d promise her next dance to another, naturally feeling invincible, I went to convince this rival to give up his obviously inferior claim. Of all the dandies and layabouts, she could have randomly pointed at she had to go and pick Marco Profeste. It did give me the perfect opportunity to show off and, more importantly, show her not to be so quick in her judgement. It was well worth leaving early, I feel we both learned a lot about each other, and saw much we liked.
Anyway, since all the pirates have left the city and we think there might be something interesting about house Debou, boss doesn’t seem to mind if I continue pursuing Onwandise. I must admit, the pewter does give a certain flourish that I lacked when asking an audience of her, but I’m not getting away with burning every time I was in the presence of Onwandise. Thinking about it, maybe I can use the boy for an edge this once, it’s for the good of the mission after all, and Onwandise would make an admirable wife, considering her cunning and grace. Not to mention having ties with another house might come in handy when Boss’ actions finally catches up with her, or Profeste finally catches up with me. I really hope tonight goes well.
Boss seems a little distracted since the party, not that I’m complaining. When she’s not around I take the helm and the two ska seem to respect me, well Penndlehave knows his place and works well and efficiently at least. The boy does as he does, he’s a little tamer now but you don’t know with skaa, once they get the idea that they’re better than us and you tell them not to be afraid of the mists they’re bound to start getting ideas. There’s a reason we feed the rumours about the mists. The maid understands, one could say she understands too well. She doesn’t act like a lady’s maid at all, on the mission she had the temerity to give me a direct order, then she vouched for my good work to the boss and the boss didn’t even bat an eyelid, perhaps… no there couldn’t be two of them, surely not!
